چکیده
The two orbital Hubbard model, with the electrons additionally coupled to a complex magnetic background, arises in pyrochlore molybdates. background involves local moments Hund's electrons, driving double exchange ferromagnetism, and antiferromagnetic (AF) tendency arising from competing superexchange. key scales include repulsion superexchange, both of which can be tuned these materials. They control phase transition ferromagnetic metal spin-glass then (Mott) insulator. We provide comprehensive description ground state this model using an unrestricted Hartree-Fock scheme implemented via simulated annealing procedure establish metal-insulator line for varying interaction see effective disorder, due frustration, already phase. disorder is further enhanced by coupling resulting disorder. As result, increasing AF shifts lower gives it additional ``Anderson'' character. detailed results on correlations, density states, optical conductivity.

Structural and insulator-metal quantum phase transitions on a lattice
We consider 2D gas of spinless fermions with the Coulomb and the short range interactions on a square lattice at T = 0. Using exact diagonalization technique we study finite clusters up to 16 particles at filling factors ν = 1/2 and 1/6. By increasing the hopping amplitude we obtain the low-energy spectrum of the system in a wide range from the classical Wigner crystal to almost free gas of fer...
متن کاملSpin-Ice and Other Frustrated Magnets on the Pyrochlore Lattice
The recent identification of the dysprosium titanate compound Dy2T i2O7 as a “Spin-Ice”, i.e. the spin analog of regular entropic ice of Pauling, has created considerable excitement. The ability to manipulate spins using magnetic fields gives a unique advantage over regular ice in these systems, and has been used to study the recovery of entropy. Predicted magnetization plateaus have been obser...

متن کاملMetal-insulator transitions in tetrahedral semiconductors under lattice change
Although most insulators are expected to undergo insulator to metal transition on lattice compression, tetrahedral semiconductors Si, GaAs and InSb can become metallic on compression as well as by expansion. We focus on the transition by expansion which is rather peculiar; in all cases the direct gap at Γ point closes on expansion and thereafter a zerogap state persists over a wide range of lat...
متن کاملSurface States, Surface Metal-Insulator, and Surface Insulator-Metal Transitions ∗
I present an informal discussion of various cases where two-dimensional surface metal-insulator structural and charge-density-wave instabilities driven by partly filled surface states have been advocated. These include reconstructions of clean semiconductor surfaces and of W(100) and Mo(100), as well as anomalies on the hydrogen-covered surfaces H/W(110) and H/Mo(110), and possibly alkali-cover...
